BERLIN
Hallo, Danke
schoen, Wo ist die Toilette? – these are some of the basic phrases needed when
going to Berlin. Welcome to the Glampacker's guide! For me, travelling is one of
the most important things that you can do. And as cliched as it sounds – it really
opens your eyes to different customs, cultures and yes, complete chaos too. As
much as I would love to call myself a ‘backpacker’ when travelling, I do like
to take the slightly more luxurious route. I use the term ‘luxurious’ loosely
however, as I still carry a backpack and slum it occasionally.
Anyway back to Berlin, my favourite city so far.
I have been here a couple of times and I plan to go back ASAP. So some advice... in terms of accommodation
for Berlin – there are two options for you to take if you want to maintain the
Glampacker lifestyle. Airbnb is one. Take note if you want to stay further
outside the city centre in Freidrichshain for example, as I have heard it is
banned in certain areas. Alternatively a private room hostel is good (you can
still socialise but have the security you wish), however few have A/C. This can be a problem if you want to keep your
hair nice and straight when you want to look good for the fantastisch clubbing
scene which leads me onto partying.
Yes, when you
go to Berlin, I suppose it is compulsory to try and get into the notorious
Berghain. If that fails (95% of the time), there are many other alternatives –
and for gay guys like me and my partner, some great parties too (hilarious
memories). Try clubs like Tressor, Salon - Zur Wilden Renate, Sisyphos, :// AboutBlank, etc.
I could say
so much more about Berlin, but if you want more advice just drop a comment
below or on the questions page. In regards to food, there are many great restaurants to try out and some
cool sights to see – just check TripAdvisor. Berlin is difficult to pin point
in pricing as you can spend as little or as much as you want.
Overall – the
Glampacker rating for Berlin is 10/10.
