Copenhagen and Malmö

Hej, Tak, hvor er toilettet? These words will help you get by in Denmark. This is my final post, and I hope at least one of these posts will have opened your eyes and my advice has inspired you to visit one of the places featured.  So Scandinavia – efficiency, technology, cool style but most importantly for me TIGER and IKEA. Yes, I did spend a day in Malmö looking for IKEA, just to say I have been there in Sweden.  It is one of my favourite shops, and yes I live a sad life.

So, what can you get up to in Copenhagen? Here is a list: The little mermaid (a little anti-climactic to be honest as it was the same size as me), Tivoli amusement park looked great too – but its closed in winter! You must go to Nynhavn as this is where the necessary Instagram post is inevitable (lots of nice colours!). TripAdvisor has a list tailored to your interests. In terms of food, there is a street food market on over the warmer months and some lovely restaurants that aren’t too pricey. Smørrebrød is amazing too!

Likewise, in Malmö…well…we went here for the day (primarily for IKEA). You cross the Oresund bridge (longest in Europe) and then you arrive in Malmo. It’s quite a small place, but has some lovely parks to walk around. We spent most of our day at Hyllie as this is where IKEA was situated near. We did walk for about 45 minutes in the -8 degree heat.  The meatballs tasted even better there though so it was worth it!


Copenhagen is really cool, and definitely worth a visit. From Glasgow (and probably other cities in the UK) flights are really cheap (£30 return approx.). We went in winter and it was freezing! So take warm clothes and moisturise! (Your face will get quite dry.) I would probably recommend going in summer though as there is a lot more going on, although in winter it is cheaper, snowy and beautiful. Hotels, Airbnb’s, etc. are more expensive as is the case in most of Scandinavia.  High living standards come at a cost, so be prepared as an average coffee will cost you around £5 (Kr40). Public transport is good and cheaper compared to other methods (the metro is driverless ahh).
